The light of the sun and the moon is a familiar order by which people live out each day. Jesus says, “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken” (Mark 13:24–25). Even the things we regard as eternal because we have always seen them have an end. This word makes us realize that the world we now see cannot become our final hope. When those who have received the remission of sins think about the end of the world, they must also look at Jesus, who will receive us at that end.
