After the man with great possessions left, Jesus said, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:25). The disciples were astonished and asked who could be saved. The way of thinking that regarded a person’s qualifications as the power of salvation collapses before this word. No matter how many possessions or works or how much fame one has, one cannot get past the judgment for sin. It is not only those who merely have much money who cannot enter; those who are rich in heart, with much rightness, greatness, and stubbornness of their own, cannot enter either.
