While listening to this word, we must not try to buy salvation with the amount of what we have given up. First there is the Lord who has given us life, and because we follow Him, there come things we lay down. What this word teaches is the choice of faith that we cannot abandon the gospel even when there is opposition from those we love. Jesus is not unaware of that pain, nor does He regard as trivial what has been lost for the Lord’s sake.
