The day on which Jesus rose was the first day of the week, that is, the dawn of the Lord’s Day. Mark chapter 16 begins with the account of the women who went to the tomb with spices after the Sabbath was over. From this record that the Lord rose on the morning of the day after the Sabbath, we come to think about what the risen Lord has given us. The Lord first gave us rest. It is not a rest in which our outward circumstances become comfortable, but a rest in which our hearts find repose.
