Having come to Gethsemane, Jesus took Peter, James, and John with Him. Greatly troubled and sorrowful, the Lord said, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death” (Mark 14:34). This tells us that the suffering of the Cross was not a play put on for outward show. The Lord, who came in a human body, actually went through the pain He was about to suffer. We must not think that because the Lord is the Son of God, He must also have felt the pain lightly.
